Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre publish their strategic overview.

Child sex offenders are switching between the internet and the offline world with increasing frequency & severity in order to target and (in some cases) abduct young victims and parents could & should do more, claims the UK national policing centre for child protection – the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre.

Almost 5,500 reports were received by the Centre during the past 12 months of which 2,500 came from members of the public using the organisation’s unique online ‘CEOP Report’ button.  Anyone providing an online environment where children go can apply to embed the ‘CEOP Report’ button by visiting www.ceop.police.uk/digitallibrary. 1,373 of those reports were from young children themselves of which 89% related specifically to instances of grooming.

Minister sees how Welsh Assembly Government projects are helping substance misuse services

Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Social Justice, Dr Brian Gibbons, has seen how a number of new Welsh Assembly Government projects are helping substance misuse service users when he attended the Gwent Service User Seminar at Greenmeadow Farm in Cwmbran.

The new books search is now working in Voyager. Simply click the New items tab and select the time period you want to search. You can also restrict your results to a particular location such as the Library and Information Centre.

A-Z list of journals

The Library has a new page for the A-Z list of journals.  You can use this to get to a journal title we subscribe to quickly.

The listing allows you to browse and search for both print and electronic journals and to see what titles we have in a particular subject category.

Trade in human beings: human trafficking in the UK

This site provides free access to the full text of the report by the Home Affairs committee which was published as HC 23-I session 2008-9 in May 2009 . The 90 page report critically examines the nature and extent of human trafficking in modern Britain. Topics covered include: sex trade trafficking; trafficking in women and children, domestic labour servants and the modern ’slave trade’. It considers how human trafficking can be prevented, policed and current practices for identifying and protecting victims. Reference is also made to international legislation.

Looking for somewhere to study?

Are you looking for a quiet place to study? Do you need a group study area to work on an assignment together? Need to use a PC? The LIC has a number of different defined study areas to cater for you different study needs or learning styles. The Group Study Area is in the Study Hall (West Level 3) next to Costa Coffee and Silent Study Areas can be found on West Levels 1 and 2 and East Levels 2,3 & 4. Community Payback

It enables UK citizens to vote for the schemes which they would like offenders sentenced to community work to undertake in their local area/ community. The site includes general information on the work of the Parole Board and the nature and purpose of community sentences, as well as the opportunity to vote online and view public feedback.
